Cloudflare and Posterous

Print Friendly

Lately started trying out posterous.com and cloudflare.com .

1st point, wondering if it’s a norm, both websites redirects you to the HTTPS URL. Looks like a practice to make visitors safe (as if they would bother to check the URL or green status in browser) or to keep information encrypted?

Besides the above HTTPS point, am not too sure if I would give up my own wordpress / site and jump into posterous though it has a few points that I like. It feels fast and has all that ‘broadcast’ to other social media feature. Tried to export this current site and import into posterous, it could even bring over the tags and spammy comments!

As for cloudflare, am starting to use it this week to try out the always online feature, besides the popular CDN feature. It is supposed to keep my site up in the even the actual web server goes down for any reason. The setup is really fast, besides the DNS propagation to tell my WHOIS to use cloudflare ‘ninja’ NS servers, cloudflare enabled my site within a day with 10mins or so of tinkering on the cloudflare control panel. Still awaiting for the statistics and report of usage (should be available after 24 hours for free accounts).

With all these low cost (or even free) SaaS (software as a service) players out there, am looking out for options to provide higher availability and security solutions for smaller businesses without IT resources. Looks like things in the cloud is getting more interesting.
